CP Media’s Chief Operating Officer, Richard Eccles, took part in a street marathon during lockdown to raise funds for local charity – Carers’ Resource.

The ‘marathon’ was started by Team GB triathlete – Brit Tate – who completed the first four laps and the event raised over £10,000 for Carers’ Resource.

The street on which Richard lives had already come together via a WhatsApp group set up to see how residents could help and support each other during lockdown – including shopping for elderly residents and sharing resources.

One of the residents works for Carers’ Resource and rallied the street to run the equivalent of a marathon with each house/family completing four circuits of the street in fancy dress, one house at a time, whilst other residents cheered on from their doorways.

“It was a fantastic day and provided a real uplift to all the residents who had been in lockdown for over a month by that stage, whilst raising a large amount of money for a local and much-needed charity. One of the great things to come out of this pandemic was a real sense of community on our street and elsewhere, plus it gave me a chance to dust off my Freddie Mercury costume once more!”
