Entries for Skipton Triathlon 2020 opened on November 1 – and 150 places have been snapped up in the first week, with early bird prices available for a limited time.

Craven District Council organised the event for the first time in April 2017 and repeated its success in 2018 and 2019, with more than 700 people taking part each year.

Skipton Triathlon will be held again on Sunday April 19th, 2020. The event is the biggest pool-based triathlon in the country; a popular event for first-timers and elite athletes alike.

The race involves a 400m swim in the Craven Leisure pool, followed by a 22km bike ride out through East and West Marton and Thornton-in-Craven, and then a 5km run around Aireville Park.

After this year’s event raised £4,500 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, the council is partnering with the charity again for the 2020 event.

Sharon Hudson, Craven District Council’s Communications, Customer Services and Partnerships Manager, said: “This is a brilliant event and we’re delighted that we’re partnering with Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice again this year.

“We always get fantastic feedback from people who have taken part – the event attracts a huge range of competitors, from complete beginners to elite athletes.

“We’re really grateful to our generous sponsors, and amazing supporters and volunteers who help us stage this event and make it such a great experience for all those who take part.”

Molly Ralphson, Community Fundraiser at Manorlands, said: “Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice is delighted to be the partner charity for Craven District Council’s Skipton Triathlon in 2020.

“This partnership will really help local people receive the specialist care and support they so much need at very difficult times for them. We need to raise £2.1 million each year for Manorlands services, and the contributions we receive from participants in these events really does help. Furthermore, the events are fantastic and we are proud to be associated with them in our local community.”

The 2020 event will be sponsored by CP Media and Omnis Signs. Richard Eccles, Chief Operating Officer at CP Media, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the 2020 Skipton Triathlon in partnership with Craven District Council.

“We have worked for a long time with the Council managing their outdoor asset sponsorship scheme which enables local businesses to promote their brand. We are also committed to supporting the local community and encouraging active lifestyles via our sister company CP Active.

“The Skipton Triathlon is a major local sporting event and an excellent way of motivating people to get into triathlons and exercise. If you haven’t done one before - give it a go!”

Jonathan Mashiter, of Omnis Design, said: “This will be our third year of sponsoring Skipton Triathlon. It’s a great event for the local community and so we were keen to offer our support again. We are a local business and the event also gives us a platform to promote the services that we offer to businesses in Skipton and beyond.”
